Delta, BC
Location: South of Vancouver, south of Richmond adjacent to the Fraser River.
Travel Time: Less than a half-hour by car via Highway 99 towards the United States border.
Climate: Same as Vancouver, but with slightly less precipitation.
Economy: Delta is an agricultural area for the most part, located on the rich flood plain of the Fraser River, with large marshy areas that serve as bird sanctuaries. A large coal loading facility on the Strait of Georgia services ocean freighters, most of them headed for Japan. The Tsawwassen Ferry Road carries a high volume of traffic through flat farmland, to the ferry terminal and on to Vancouver Island. A commercial fishing fleet lands its catch in Delta; fish plants in the community process it. There is some manufacturing but the rural character predominates. The municipality has three separate commercial centres - Tsawwassen, Ladner and North Delta.
To do: In Delta, you are close enough to Vancouver to take in all of its amenities.
